Everything below is fictional. The venues are described rather than named, and the achievements are the kind of thing a real housekeeper does — written the way they should appear on a CV, not inflated.

Templates that suit this example
- Floor — Practical layout with certificates in an emphasis row near the top, where a head housekeeper looks first.
- Essential — One column, standard headings — the plainest option when you are applying to a large hotel group.
- Classic — A more formal document, which suits established hotels and traditional properties.

Professional summary
- Why it matters.
- A head housekeeper is working out whether you can hold a room count on a busy changeover day. Rooms per shift, the kind of property and your availability answer that faster than anything else on the page.
- A strong version.
- Property type and size, rooms per shift, whether you work to a checklist and inspection, and your real availability. Three or four sentences.
- Common mistake.
- Leading with "hardworking and detail-oriented". Everyone writes it. "Turns around [X] rooms a shift to a checklist" is the same claim with evidence attached.
Core skills
- Why it matters.
- Housekeeping has a vocabulary — departures and stayovers, changeovers, linen cycles, COSHH — and using it correctly signals you have done the job rather than just cleaned before.
- A strong version.
- The specific, checkable things: turnaround to checklist, linen handling, COSHH dilution and PPE, maintenance reporting, lost property, trolley control.
- Common mistake.
- Writing only "cleaning". The parts a property cannot easily teach — discretion in an occupied room, spotting a fault worth reporting, keeping a trolley secure — are the ones worth naming.
Experience
- Why it matters.
- A 300-bedroom chain hotel, a set of serviced apartments and a holiday let are three different jobs with the same title. Saying which one you did, and how many rooms, is what lets a reader place you.
- A strong version.
- Property type and size, rooms per shift, whether you worked alone or in a team, and what you owned beyond cleaning — linen, stock, reporting, inspections. Use [X] for your own numbers rather than borrowing these.
- Common mistake.
- Only listing cleaning tasks. Reporting a leak before it damaged a ceiling, or handling lost property correctly, is what distinguishes a housekeeper from a cleaner — and it is what the property is actually relying on.
Certifications and adapting this honestly
- Why it matters.
- COSHH and health and safety training are the difference between someone a property has to supervise around chemicals and someone it does not. They are quick and often funded.
- A strong version.
- COSHH, health and safety, manual handling and any cleaning qualification, each with a year. Languages belong here too if you have them — many housekeeping teams are multilingual and it genuinely helps.
- Common mistake.
- Assuming this only counts if you worked in a luxury hotel. Serviced apartments, holiday lets, student accommodation, care settings and contract cleaning all transfer — describe the property honestly and let the detail speak.
If your experience looks different
Most people are not the candidate in the example. Three common situations, and what to change for each.
No hotel experience — your first housekeeping job
Your summary. Say plainly that this would be your first housekeeping role, and lead on reliability and pace. Changeover days are unforgiving, so a property is mainly checking that you will be there and will not slow down at room eight.
What to emphasise. Any cleaning done to a standard and a deadline — a family business, a holiday let, an office contract, a care home, a school. Being available for early shifts and weekends matters as much as experience, because changeovers fall on both.
Bullets you could adapt
- ·Cleaned [X] self-catering properties on changeover days, working to the letting agent’s checklist.
- ·Worked early weekend shifts cleaning a [venue type] before opening, to a set finish time.
- ·Completed COSHH Awareness and Level 2 Health and Safety before applying.
Certifications. COSHH Awareness first — it is short, often free online, and it answers the main thing a property worries about with an untrained starter. Level 2 Health and Safety after it.
Some experience — going for supervisor or head housekeeper
Your summary. Name the step: "Room attendant with four years, looking for a first housekeeping supervisor role." Then write about the rooms you check rather than the rooms you clean.
What to emphasise. Inspecting other people’s rooms, training new starters, allocating the board, ordering linen and amenities, covering the supervisor, and handling guest requests or complaints directly.
Bullets you could adapt
- ·Inspected [X] rooms a day against the property standard and returned those that failed.
- ·Trained [X] new room attendants on the checklist, linen handling and chemical use.
- ·Covered the supervisor on their days off, including allocating the room board.
Certifications. Level 3 supervision or team-leading if the property funds it, plus first aid — both signal you can be left in charge of a floor and a team.
Moving into housekeeping from another kind of work
Your summary. Name the transferable spine — working to a checklist, to a deadline, unsupervised, in someone else’s space — and state the move directly. Domestic cleaning, care work and contract cleaning are all closer to this than the job titles suggest.
What to emphasise. Volume and pace, working alone against a schedule, any COSHH or health and safety training, trustworthiness in occupied or private spaces, and genuine early-shift availability.
Bullets you could adapt
- ·Cleaned [X] homes a week to individual client requirements, working unsupervised with keys.
- ·Worked to an audited cleaning standard in a care setting, including infection-control procedures.
- ·Held keys and alarm codes for [X] sites with no security incidents.
Certifications. COSHH and manual handling usually transfer straight across from cleaning or care work — put them on. Add Level 2 Health and Safety if you have none.
